Jason Newsted Looks Back on Metallica’s “ReLoad” in New Deluxe Remastered Set

Metallica has continued to release remasters of their catalog with a massive deluxe box set of ReLoad. Released in 1997, the band’s seventh studio album continued the new hard rock approach of 1996’s Load. It also marked the final studio album to feature bassist Jason Newsted, who would ultimately leave in 2000. The period is one that Newsted has wrestled with over the years, but in the box set’s book, he writes that time has reshaped his perspective.
“Overall, these many years later and after my re-engagement with ReLoad, I still feel victorious … I did what I came to do. We did what we came to do,” he writes.
The box set is massive. Aside from remastered versions of tracks including “Fuel,” “The Memory Remains,” and “Unforgiven II,” Metallica includes complete live shows, rough mixes, demos, tour laminates, posters, picks, a 128-page hardcover book, and more.

ReLoad Remastered Deluxe is available now in the box set, vinyl and as a digital download (Apple Music, and Amazon Music).
Metallica – with Robert Trujillo – are continuing on their M72 world tour. Newsted will be heading out on the road soon with his own Chophouse Band, featuring Jimbo Hart on the bass. Check out their tour dates here.
