Best of 2010: Top 10 Bass Players
To kick off the new year, we’re celebrating the top 10 most viewed, most searched for bassists on No Treble in 2010.
#1. Tal Wilkenfeld
For the second year in a row, Tal Wilkenfeld was the most viewed, most searched on bassist No Treble. Tal was busy in 2010, including a tour with Herbie Hancock, sitting in on several albums (as well as working on her own) and was nominated for a Grammy with Jeff Beck.
#2. Jaco Pastorius
More than 23 years since the passing of the “world’s greatest bass player”, Jaco Pastorius is still generating serious respect from bassists around the globe. No Treble readers put him near the top, thanks to some rare Jaco footage we were able to find in 2010, as well as the story of Robert Trujillo and the “Bass of Doom”.
#3. Rhonda Smith
Rhonda Smith joined Jeff Beck for his 2010 tour and Live And Exclusive From The Grammy Museum release, taking over for Tal Wilkenfeld. A video featuring Rhonda taking a solo during that tour was one of the most viewed on No Treble in 2010, as was the news of the tour itself via Google and elsewhere.
#4. Marcus Miller
Marcus Miller joins the other two-thirds of SMV in the top 10 list for 2010 with news of a Grammy nomination, a new album announcement, clinics, tours and plenty of funky videos.
#5. Victor Wooten
2010 included lots of fantastic Victor Wooten videos, the release of The Music Lesson as an audio book, Wooten Woods camps and a tour with the Flecktones.
#6. Flea
Flea introduced his new Fleabass at NAMM this year, joined Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn on a new album, compiled a new book with Red Hot Chili Peppers band mates, and was featured a few times in our daily video mix.
#7. James Jamerson
2010 saw some great rare footage and isolated bass tracks from the late, great James Jamerson. No Treble readers gave them the big thumbs up.
#8. Esperanza Spalding
Esperanza Spalding took the world by storm once again with a smash hit album, a Grammy nomination, and an a new PBS Show announced.
#9. Geddy Lee
In 2010 Geddy Lee and the timeless rockers from Rush announced a new record, a new (looking back) tour, were the focus of a new documentary and switched to Orange Amps.
#10. Stanley Clarke
Stanley Clarke was a busy man in 2010, releasing a new album (The Stanley Clarke Band), a tour, a few other album appearances, a Grammy nomination and switching to Ampeg.
