Hal Leonard Releases Jazz Bass On Top by Andy McKee

Jazz Bass On TopHal Leonard has released Jazz Bass on Top: A Guide to Left-Hand Technique by Andy McKee, an instructional book for double bass aimed at improving fingerboard facility through 50 jazz songs.

Presented in order of difficulty, the tunes range from “The Girl From Ipanema” to “Teen Town,” and teach walking bass lines as well as soloing techniques.

McKee, who teaches at the New School, has performed with the likes of the Mingus Big Band, Elvin Jones, Chet Baker, and Philly Joe Jones.

“Developing a thoughtful and organized method for the left hand is fundamental to the evolution of a bassist’s artistic endeavor,” he explains. “This theme is central to my teaching students of the double bass, guiding them in their quest for instrumental mastery and musical excellence.”
