Bela Fleck & The Flecktones Extend North American Tour

Bela Fleck & The FlecktonesBela Fleck and the Flecktones have announced extended tour dates in support of their latest album, Rocket Science. The trek, which began in May, is now set to stretch into September with shows in Canada and the U.S. Several of the performances will be at festivals, including the Montreal Jazz fest and the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival.

The current incarnation of the Flecktones features all of the original members, comprised of banjoist Bela Fleck, bassist Victor Wooten, drummer Roy “Futureman” Wooten, and harmonica player Howard Levy jumping back into the fold.

When we interviewed Wooten, he explained the band was ready to come back together.

“It was time. You know, it was time for us to do something,” he said. “The last three years, just about all we had done was the months of November and December. Everybody was doing their separate things. So, we had talked over the years about what we wanted to do next, concluding with doing a record with our former member, Howard Levy. The first thing we did was a tour for a few weeks with Howard just for fun, playing some of that old music and having a good time. Then we decided to do a record…”
