Kala Introduces S-U-B U-Bass Series

Kala S-U-B U-Bass Series - Satin RedKala has unveiled their newest line of bass ukuleles dubbed the Subductive Series. The basses are solid body versions of their U-Basses, available at a lower price point than the company’s U.S.-made counterparts.

The Subductive Series Solid Body U-Bass (aka the S-U-B) gets its name from the “phenomenon when one tectonic plate dives underneath another and creates a deep spot in the ocean floor,” which is how the Mariana Trench was formed.

The new line retains a few of the qualities of the California Series, including the design and the company’s proprietary polyurethane strings. The woods used offer a new change, as the basses feature a poplar body and a bolt-on maple neck with a rosewood fretboard.

Hipshot-licensed tuners and a rosewood nut round out the hardware, while the electronics include a Shadow active pickup system and a 2-band EQ.

The Kala S-U-B U-Basses come in three finishes (Satin Red, Satin Black, and Gloss 3-tone Sunburst) and ship with a U-Bass logo gig bag.

MSRP is set at $549.00 for the Red and Black finishes and $649.00 for the 3-tone Sunburst. For more info, visit the Kala U-Bass website.

OK, so how do these compare to the US ones? And are they planning on releasing a 5 string from what you know?
