Victor Wooten Announces Three Camps to Wrap Up 2011 Season

Victor Wooten CampsThe last three of Victor Wooten’s camps for the 2011 season take place September, including the second Bass/Nature Camp of the year. The camps, which are for musicians of all ages and skill levels, also include a Jam Weekend and “Spirit of Music” Camp that will feature holistic musicality training with Vic and special guest Daniel Levitin, author of This Is Your Brain on Music.

The lineup of instructors for the Bass/Nature Camp this year include Wooten, Steve Bailey, Anthony Wellington, Chuck Rainey, Dave Welsch, Bob Hemenger, Richard Cleveland and Matthew Garrison, though other bass heroes usually stop in.

“We’ve got a great host of instructors, and I’m definitely not the only instructor there, but I am there 100% of the time,” Wooten told us in an exclusive interview. “Anthony [Wellington] is there, Steve Bailey, Chuck Rainey, there’s a whole bunch of people that pop in, and there’s always surprise guests that we don’t tell you that are coming.”

The exercises get pretty deep, but beginners are welcome, the bass phenom explains.

“We make sure everyone leaves our camp knowing how to read music, make sure that all the bass players get their hands on a double bass, you know different fundamental things like that. But we also do a lot of exercises that help you understand music from a more complete way, rather than just notes and scales and techniques. There’s other things involved, so we try to turn you on to those things, too.”

The camps all take place at Wooten Woods in Only, Tennessee, near Nashville. Registration and space is open for all camps. For more info, visit VixCamps.com.
