Charlie Haden’s and Hank Jones’ Final Collaboration: Come Sunday

Charlie Haden and Hank Jones: Come SundayBassist Charlie Haden and the late pianist Hank Jones teamed up one last time in 2010 to record a new album, nearly sixteen years following the release of their first collaboration, Steal Away.

The new album, Come Sunday, is a collection of classic spirituals, hymns and folk songs. The title track is their remake of Duke Ellington’s classic tune of the same name.

Come Sunday was recorded in February 2010, just three months before Jones’ passing at the age of 91. Jones, considered one of the great jazz pianists, had a career that spanned more than 70 years and included work with just about every notable jazz musician from Benny Goodman to Ella Fitzgerald to Diana Krall.

On January 10th, the same day as the release, Haden received the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Award in New York we reported back in June.
