Bass of the Week: CB Basses D-Bass 4-String
This week we take a look at the D-bass by CB Basses, a custom shop run by luthier Cliff Bordwell. Featuring a Jazz style neck and pickups, the bass is an exquisite example of craftsmanship with its diverse mix of exotic woods. The body is built around a Spanish Cedar core with an Amboyna burl top and Birdseye maple back, each separated by a layer of Bloodwood for accent. The main body woods are all matched elsewhere, as the 3-piece maple neck is topped with a Birdseye maple fingerboard to compliment the back, and the headstock plate is also Amboyna burl. As an added touch, the nut is made of pink ivory.
Bordwell included Hipshot hardware, with their “A” bridge and chrome Ultralite tuners. For electronics, the bass is equipped with a pair of Seymour Duncan Antiquity Jazz Bass pickups. The preamp is an Aguilar 3-Band EQ, with the knobs configured for Volume, Volume, Treble, Mids, and Bass.
CB Basses are all custom made to order, so pricing varies. For more info, check out the CB Basses website.
