Carvin Introduces BRX15.3 and BRX18.1 Bass Cabinets

Carvin BRX Model Bass CabinetsCarvin has added two new models to their BRX Series bass cabinets: the BRX15.3 and the BRX18.1. Made in the USA, the new cabs are built from Baltic Birch plywood covered in DuraTex and have recessed steel handles as well as caster inserts.

The BRX15.3 is a 600-watt 3-way cabinet loaded with a 15? woofer, an 8? mid driver, and a 1? titanium horn driver that has a 6-position attenuation knob. The BRX18.1 sports a single 18? woofer and is tuned to 26Hz, which Carvin explains reaches below the low-B string frequency.

Both of the new cabs can be paired with matching amplifiers on Carvin’s website to make a full rig. The Carvin BRX15.3 and BRX18.1 have sale prices of $479 and $449, respectively. For more, check out the Carvin website.

  1. Carvin makes incredible gear. My band has a complete PA system from them and it sounds like.

All joking aside, these things are amazing. I have actually run direct to our soundboard for over 2 years now and it blows my mind how awesome they sound. The cabinets we have are time aligned and it makes such an amazing difference.

  2. Serious G.A.S. settling in.

  3. Expecting a lonely 18 to reproduce Lo-B fundamentals to any level nearing that which the rest of the rig produces the 2nd, 3rd, etc harmonics is completely asinine, marketing hoopla. Given the dim sensitivity of human hearing @31Hz and the fact that the sub’s 30Hz sensitivity lies 5db below its 98db average, the amount of power required to bring that fundamental to an audible amplitude in the midst of its harmonics (not to mention the rest of the band) would tear that speaker to shreds due to overexcursion.

The top, on the other hand, looks friggin sweet. That 8″ midrange probably salvages everything lost in a typical 2-way, and the 15″ woofer likely does a decent job down to 80Hz where the sub would pick up and lead you (realistically) to 45Hz or so.

Over all, it looks like an impressively well thought-out cab. It will sound great if used within its limitations (hi- pass top @80Hz min, lo-pass top at 16kHz max, hi-pass sub at 35Hz absolute min, with steep slope, and lo-pass sub around 80Hz, or wherever your top left off.)

    Good stuff.
