Fender Introduces Factory Special Run Antigua Jazz and Precision Basses

Fender Factory Special Run Antigua Precision Bass

Fender continues to bring old school to the forefront with the announcement of a “Factory Special Run” of instruments with their retro Antigua finish.

Introduced in the late 1960’s, the distinct color scheme was revisited in 1977 with more of a greenish shade. The new limited edition line includes both Jazz and Precision bass models.

  1. I’m surprised! That’s a solid, very reasonable price for a Fender P or J bass. Very well done Fender!

    • I’m surprised too, I was ready to read something completely absurd out of reach in regards to price (like the ZZ Top bassist’s), but these seem to be ok… wonder if they come in five trings too.

  2. must be made in mexico.

    • And Ironically, if true, same quality as instruments made in the US. Sometimes fenders made in Mexico sport the so treasured “Made in the US” sticker.

    • Would replace the pickup with a ’62 Vintage. Otherwise, the Mexi instruments are not bad but the USA Made models are still superior in the quality of woods and hardware. At this price, though, might have to get one :-)

    • Yep, they’ll be from the Mexican factory.

    • Hello, today I tried one Antigua(Mexico), and two Jazz Bass USA more expensive basses, and loved the Antigua! Thinking of buying it tomorrow! MelowTone if you want some, funky slapable style with bring up all the goods, jazzy and warm tone for finger technique, and bootom end with distorting the tone! Just in Love with it!

  3. Will Fender EVER stop using poly finish?

  4. somebody buy me one!

  5. I SELL FENDER….BEST DEAL IN TOWN…..ON FACE BOOK……THE MUSIC LAB……..THANKS….V.

  6. Iv’e owned the real deal. 1978 by the way! Nothing special except the colour and I hated the three bolt neck!

  7. oh god…. aren’t they beutiful? however, if they are truly made in mexico would be a disappointment :(

  8. Just ordered one… I don’t care if its MIM or not. US versions aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, for the increase in price. Still maple, Still Alder.

  9. I was surprised after playing an American made 62 reissue addition, this model had a better playing neck..and for about $500. less.. you know what I bought!

    • Ive had mine for about 4 months now…. love it! The neck is so smooth as you suggested. May upgrade the pickups and add a f logo bridge cover.

How many of these basses were made in the limited run?
