Led Zeppelin Announce New Live DVD, Celebration Day

Led Zeppelin: Celebration DayLed Zeppelin has confirmed the release of Celebration Day, a film of the one-off reunion concert they performed at London’s O2 Arena in 2007. The film will be shown in theaters worldwide October 17th with CD, DVD, Blu-ray and LP formats and hitting shelves on November 19th.

Anchored by bassist John Paul Jones, the band reunited for the concert to celebrate the life of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, who helped discover and nurture their talent. Over 20 million people applied for tickets to the show, which only held 18,000 seats. Luckily, the film presents the performance in its entirety so the rest of us can experience the momentous occasion.

In other Led Zeppelin news, the group will be among the recipients of the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors. The award is presented each year to recognize lifetime contributions to the arts.

“Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant transformed the sound of rock and roll with their lyricism and innovative song structures, infusing blues into the sound of rock and roll and laying the foundation for countless rock bands,” Kennedy Center chairman David M. Rubenstein said in an official statement.

The ceremony takes place at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on December 2nd. Fans will be able to catch highlights of the event on CBS on December 26th.
