Bassline Publishing Releases iPad Versions of Ultimate Slap Bass Series

Ultimate Slap Bass - Advanced LevelBassline Publishing has taken their Ultimate Slap Bass books to the screen with the release of all three levels as interactive iPad editions.

Originally released in 2005, the popular print counterpart of this book has been expanded to offer video demonstrations of all the main techniques, audio tracks for each exercise as well as the sheet music and text. Each exercise also includes a bass-free audio track to play along to.

There are three books, designed for each level of playing: beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Author (and No Treble contributor) Stuart Clayton is enthusiastic about this new medium for music education.

“As a learning aid, the iPad has enormous potential, and I’m really excited to be able to release Ultimate Slap Bass in this form,” Clayton said. “The facility to include audio and video within a book is an obvious advantage to learning anything, and of course it makes learning a musical instrument all the more enjoyable. I think bass players are going to love this.”

  1. Adam… still waiting for “The Bass Player’s Guide to Reading Music” to be released… since last year.. any problem? I’m one of your proud customer ;).

    • owww gooood…… stuart of course, not the U2’s one (this one for me…. in my face…)

    • Joachim Mahoudeaux Hey, I’m working on the reading book right now! It actually got to be such a huge book that I am splitting it into three, less intimidating books! I’ll post some updates on the Bassline Publishing site in the next week or so. Thanks for being a customer! Stuart

    • Ah nice !! as Motto’s “trilogy” so… ?? not so bad idea indeed, more progressive ;-)

  2. can this work on the iphone?

    • Hi Sam, no, these are books created specifically for the iPad. Apple don’t give the option to export these interactive books for the iPhone, and with good reason in our opinion: it wouldn’t be a good learning experience! On the iPad they look awesome, but the iPhone is just too small.

  3. Why only for Ipad, why not just a digital book usable on all platforms?

    • Jean-Luc, the software used to create these books is Apple’s iBooks Author, which only allows content to be created for the iPad. Additionally, the conventional ebook format does not allow for audio and video content, just text. We will be making these books available as conventional ebooks in the new year, but customers will have to download the audio files separately for these, and there would not be the option to include any video in the books. The new format that Apple have introduced for their textbooks (which is what is used here) allows for a far better interactive learning experience than a conventional ebook.

It does however mean that you need an iPad!

    • Why would video not be an option? Couldn’t they be downloaded separately as well? I am very interested in the material but don’t want to be forced to own an iPad.

    • David, yes the video could be downloaded separately, but it can’t be featured within the book if it’s a normal ebook.

    • Would the videos be included in the future ebook or a current copy of the print book?

    • Definitely agree with the few here….looks like a good and cool book, but definitely not involving myself with apple just to see it. I’ll wait for a more open format.

  4. oh sweet, always wanted to order the ultimate slap book, but it was so expensive to buy overseas. Thanks for this!
