Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear: “Cut Me Some Slack” – Live

A couple of days ago, we reported that Paul McCartney would be joining the surviving members of Nirvana for 121212: The Concert for Sandy Relief.

It happened, and it was set up nicely by McCartney, who shared a little about his first jam session with the guys.

“I finally understood I was in the middle of a Nirvana reunion,” he said before the others joined him on stage.

The group performed “Cut Me Some Slack” – a tune they worked out during their jam and debuted for the live audience and broadcast.

McCartney rocked it on a cigar box guitar – including some impressive slide work – with Krist Novoselic on bass, Dave Grohl on drums and Pat Smear on guitar.

Seems pretty solid to us. What’s your take?

  1. Sounded like a bad idea…actually pretty good….McArtney blended well, and though it did sound pretty ‘off-the-cuff’ it’s probably the best thing he’s done in years.

  2. Il peut tout faire…

  3. I’m diggin Krists’ bass. What is it?

  4. Much better than the SNL performance.

ON SNL, there was an AVT rig, a Boogie rig, a Vox rig and an Ashdown rig lined up in the center of the back line. Does anyone know why? I figure the SVT was for Novoselic and McCartney plays Boogie. Also, when Novoselic was playing the SVT grille had “Sound City” (documentary about famous studios) painted on it, but when McCartney was playing his Hofner, the grille had been removed.

    Anyone have the info?

  5. McCartney’s voice still rocks!

  6. Joe

Great performance. The song was just okay.

  7. This performance shows the close relation between Beatles, punk and grunch. And of course anything between. I like it!
