Nikki Sixx Selling Stage-Played Basses from Motley Crue Concerts
Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx is offering fans a chance to buy his stage-played basses from the band’s current and upcoming North American tours.
Each night of the tour, Sixx will play one of his signature Schecter basses for the concert. Fans that buy the bass will get to have a meet-and-greet with Sixx before the concert where he will autograph it, then play it at the concert before it is handed over the the new owner.
“I have been asked 1000’s of times to sell my basses I play onstage but have never found a way to do it and feel that that special collector would be getting more than just the instrument,” Sixx posted on his Facebook page last month. “Starting in Canada, I will be giving it a try to fulfill the years of fans requests.”
Fans can order the basses online. At press time, there are currently two basses left for order. This could be the last chance to own a bass played in a Motley Crue concert as Sixx, who co-founded the band in 1981, recently announced they will be breaking up after wrapping up a film, new album, and farewell tour. In an interview with TheMusic.com.au, the bassist stressed that the band will be finished for good.
“It’s important that when you do a farewell tour that people understand that when you put a bullet in the back of the horse’s head, and it goes down, it’s not a plastic bullet it’s a [expletive] shotgun blast,” he said. “It has to [be that way]. It’s the only way I can look at myself in the mirror and do a farewell tour. That’s it. So when we take our final bow, it’s IT. So it’s very emotional and I just think it’s important that we finish what we started and then, you know, it will be whatever it will be. It could be beautiful. It could be a beautiful ending!”

Do I need a tattoo sleeve and a hairweave to play this instrument? Can I play more than root and 8th notes with a pick?

Amen to that! Why would anyone want to play a Marcus Miller, Roger Waters, Geddy Lee signature bass? Though they are great instruments…but you can customize them yourself…akin to the aforementioned artists.
But Nikki actually “played” this blessed instrument. Good to see the money he receives will line his own pockets. I doubt this is a real farewell tour. Someone will need money in the future and they’ll get back together for a Too Fast for Love tour or Girls Girls Girls tour. It worked for The Who whenever John Entwistle bought too many clothes or basses. OK, I’m done rambling. I’m happy with my Ronnie Montrose pick (although it only allows me to play Rock The Nation whenever I hold it).

If it’s the instrument for you, why settle for less? At time fo posting, I’m yet to play a bass that does everything I want it to as well as the Billy Sheehan signature bass, it’s still an instrument regardless of what’s on the headstock.

kind of makes you wonder if he is hard up for money. $5k for one of these Schecter pieces of shit? This is a guy who cares about his fans. He loves them so much he is going to charge them $5k for a $300 bass! Whata a Guy!
