Bass of the Week: Bajos Colmenares #22

Bajos Colmenares #22 Bass - bottom viewBajos Colmenares of Venezuela has some pretty beautiful designs, including their model #22. The 5-string bass features neck-through construction with a slender body of cedar and apamate. The fingerboard and headstock cap are ebony.

The #22 is fitted with a Nordstrand NJ5 pickup in the neck position and a MM5.2 pickup in the bridge position. Each pickup has separate volume and tone controls, while a toggle allows for switching between coils on the MM5.2.

Hardware includes Hipshot Ultralite tuners and a Pau Ferro bridge with aluminum saddles.

  2. I was never too keen on the idea of visiting my once neighbouring country, but that bass would be worth the trip. I like it a lot, even though I’m not usually crazy about singlecuts.

  3. I’m a huge fan of the classic P bass tone… but this bass sounds amazing!
