Ibanez Adds 7-String Bass to BTB Series

Adding to their extended range bass lineup, Ibanez has introduced the Limited Edition BTB7. The 7-string bass adds a high F-string to the company’s existing 6-string BTB configuration.

The BTB7 features neck-through construction with a 7-piece maple, bubinga, and walnut neck sporting maple body wings topped with walnut. Its body shape follows the BTB style with deep cutaways and an extended upper horn.

Ibanez fitted the bass with a pair of CAP Sonic Arch pickups, which are single-sized humbuckers with blade polepieces that they say give a “well balanced tradition tone.” In addition to Volume and Balance controls, the bass has a 3-band EQ with a bypass switch for passive operation. Other features include a 35” scale, a Mono-Rail IV Bridge, and a Neutrik locking output jack.

The Ibanez BTB7 ships with a hardshell case and is available now with a street price of $1,299. For more info, check out the Ibanez website.

  1. would love to give it a go. great price for what it is.

  2. The price is really good for 7-string. But this “may” be a tough decision for who “sometimes” want to bend up the G string or tap on the upper strings at the 24th fret.

  3. I’ve got a 5-string prestige series, and if this is anything like it, it’s a steal at that price point. By the time I save up for one, the price may hopefully come down a little. Hopefully ;)

  4. If turned the same way as a seven string guitar this would sounds like a fart lol.

  5. Great price for a 7 string, and Ibanez makes nice instruments. The 35″ scale is pointless, no reason not to be 34″ unless the neck construction is not strong enough for the low B (which in that case I wouldn’t want the bass anyway). The neck profile is the main concern. All my Conklin Guitars 7strings fit my hand like a glove and are effortless to play in all ranges. However I’ve seen some attempts at a 7 from other well known luthiers that hurt my hands.
