Victor Wooten Announces 2013 Camps, Mike Stern Tour Dates

One of the busiest bassists in the business is gearing up for a busy summer.

Victor Wooten’s Wooten Woods Camps are starting later this month and running through October. Four different camps have been announced, uniquely focused on music and nature, as Victor’s camps are designed.

Things kick off with the Three Week Residency (July 22 through August 11), a 21-day experience which combines the elements from all of Victor’s camps. This camp is limited to bassists and guitarists only, ages 15 and up. Victor is teaching at this camp five to six days per week along with guest instructors.

In September, the Spirit of Music Camp will take place over a five day period (September 18th through 22nd). Victor says this is the camp students have been asking for, and he’s been hesitant to offer in the past. The camp centers around the idea that “there is a side of Music that is sometimes felt, but rarely talked about. Some claim it is impossible to teach.” Victor and guest instructors will “explore the ‘hidden’ side of Music,” and “the ‘invisible’ approach to Music Victor rarely shares with anyone. It will surely enhance your connection to Music and it may just blow your mind.” This camp is open to all instrumentalists and vocalists ages 15 and up.

Two camps are scheduled for October, starting with a 2-day “Jam Camp” weekend. In this camp, Victor ties learning to play music to learning to talk. When children learn to talk, a key part of the the development is having people to talk to. In other words, you “jammed” with people all the time in your journey to learn to speak. For Victor, he always had people to jam with musically growing up, and those people were often better than him. This camp is modeled after Victor’s experiences of finding his musical voice through playing with others. This camp is open to instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages and skill level.

From October 12 through 13th, Victor will host a Animal Tracking weekend, where the focus is on exploring the ancient art of tracking. Victor said this was his favorite topic while he was studying with Tom Brown Jr, Charles Worsham and others. This free camp is open to all ages.
