Joe Osborn Birthday Celebration: Two Great Videos

Today is birthday of legendary bassist Joe Osborn, so we thought we’d share a couple of videos to help celebrate.

The first one is an isolated track – vocals, drums and bass on the Carpenters hit “Close to You”. This one offers up a pretty simple bass line with some tasty licks throughout. But as the case with all great bass, it goes perfectly with the music. The interplay between Joe’s bass and Karen’s voice is just terrific.

Next up is Ricky Nelson’s video for “Travelin’ Man”. While the song is not very bass centric, this is the song Joe discovered, and it became Nelson’s biggest hit. Also, this is credited by some as the first music video, thanks to the city scenes superimposed in the background.

Happy birthday, Joe!
