Troy Roberts’ Nu-Jive 5, Featuring Eric England: Stoner

A couple of weeks ago, we featured a video of Dane Alderson playing with Troy Roberts’ Nu-Jive, and it led me to check out more of the saxophonists videos. Mr. Roberts obviously has a knack for picking great bassists, because I was blown away by Eric England in this video for the song “Stoner.”

The bassist floats a nice big bass line to give the song a dreamy vibe, but at the 2:40 mark Roberts and England play an angular unison soli that will make you rewind to watch again.

  1. wow! love this! progressive, melodic jazz fusion!!! love eric england’s tone and phrases, as well as his reaction to his own playing (head jerking, face squinting). he’s feelin’ it. drummer and guitar player are killin’ it too. good stuff!

  2. Great stuff but what’s a unison SOLI. Is that jazz for solo

  3. Very nice. I like the improved parts. The “unison soli” were killer!

  4. Oh man.. .this is great.
