Amanda Ruzza and Mauricio Zottarelli Release “Glasses, No Glasses”

Amanda Ruzza and Mauricio Zottarelli: Glasses, No GlassesIt only took two days in the studio to capture the funky, no-holds-barred jams that define Glasses, No Glasses — bassist Amanda Ruzza’s album with fellow Brazilian, drummer Mauricio Zottarelli.

The pair were joined on the record by keyboardist-saxophonist and Esperanza Spalding sideman Leo Genovese. The trio initially gathered in the studio to film a short video for Dunlop to demonstrate effects pedals. But then, they realized they could really make some music together and they created five tracks on day one.

“It’s not just music, it’s a reflection of our friendship,” says Ruzza of her fellow players and their musical connection. An admitted control freak, Ruzza says she really worked in opposition to her usual methods with this record. “There was no controlling. We didn’t say anything. We just played. And I think what happened between the three of us on the recording was a magical moment. For me, it was a historical thing those two genius guys finally got together, and I was the lucky one that got to play bass with them.”

Glasses, No Glasses is available for digital download now (iTunes and Amazon MP3), with the CD release coming in September.
