Xotic Announces 6-String XJ-1T Bass
Xotic has expanded their XJ-1T series with a 6-string bass, which the company describes as having the feel and tone of a traditional jazz-type bass with the addition of two more strings. The 34″ scale bass is fitted with a pair of the company’s single coil pickups and Hum Reduction Inductor circuit that eliminates the hum associated with jazz-style pickups.
Available in natural or black finishes, the bass is built with an ash body and a maple neck with the option of maple or rosewood fingerboard. The XJ-1T is fitted with an EWS Tri-Logic preamp with a 3-band EQ, mid-frequency and bright switches, and active/passive functionality. Hardware include Hipshot Ultralite tuners and a Hipshot A-Style bridge.
The Xotic XJ-1T 6-string bass is available with an MSRP of $4,500.

I wish I could post it big enough for these luthier thugs to see. PEOPLE CANNOT NORMALLY AFFORD SOMETHING THIS EXPENSIVE. YOU WOULD GET YOUR NAME AROUND AND SELL MORE IF YOU STOPPED CHARGING A PERSONS LIFE SAVINGS TO BUY ONE OF YOUR INSTRUMENT!
Smh@Bob. Knowing a few independent builders, these guys do not make that much money after overhead, and certainly none of them are getting rich. I know many barely get by. Besides, you are looking at retail, not the sale price. Clearly you are unaware of any of this.
It’s MSRP. It’ll probably be comparable to a Fender Custom Shop like most of their other models. They’re a bargain at their quality level in my opinion.
I like it. Reminds me of the Low End Jazz Basses.
Yes Sir! These instruments are beautiful and wonderful but the average musician can’t afford them. Mark up is a real “muther fa yah yeah”!
@Bob Vinson, don’t worry about basses that cost more than you want to pay. Just look at Hadrien Feraud, who turned the bass world upside down with an inexpensive Ken Smith import model, or Marcus Miller, who thousands of bassists with boutique Jazzes copy even though he became famous playing a bass his Mom bought for him second hand for under $300. Nobody but us gear lovers fixates on the make of bass being played.
I bet this model is also offered with a full 2-octave fingerboard though Xotic didn’t made an official announcement yet.
