Bass of the Week: Phantom Guitars XTC

This week we check out the XTC by Phantom Guitars. Handmade in Cologne, Germany, the XTC brings together elements of several classic basses with a single-coil and humbucker pickup configuration that the company says gives it modern sounds for rock, funk, jazz and pop.

The XTC comes in 4-, 5-, and 6-string versions with a choice of body woods. Its neck is a 5-piece lamination of maple and amaranth that’s topped with either a rosewood or maple fingerboard. Phantom fits it with Bartolini pickups with a mini switch to toggle between use of the three coils as well as a bypassable 3-band EQ.

  1. They look nice. Not a fan of the headstock though.

  2. Lewis K

Not a fan of the bridge design – particularly the sharp edges on the saddles.
