Bassists Join Forces for “Live in Finland”

Jan-Olof Strandberg & Armand Sabal-Lecco Project: Live in FinlandBassists Armand Sabal-Lecco and Jan-Olof Strandberg have joined together to create a unique live album, Live in Finland, as the Jan-Olof Strandberg & Armand Sabal-Lecco Project.

A Cameroonian, Sabal-Leco is known for his work with Paul Simon, Stanley Clarke, Peter Gabriel and Stewart Copeland. He’s currently part of Robert Trujillo’s group Mass Mental.

As for the Finnish Strandberg, for quite some time he has been inviting musicians — such as Paul Jackson and Michael Manring — to make new sounds with him with his Strandberg Project.

The sound hit upon for Live in Finland had a very specific goal, according to Strandberg. “With this music we wanted to create a mix between Armand Sabal-Lecco’s rich musical background that is everything from traditional African music to American funk, reggae & jazz with our north-European way of playing and improvising.”

Here’s a little of what you’ll hear on the album:

Other musicians on the record include Sami Virtanen on guitar & keyboards; Jukka Gustavson on Hammond organ & keyboards and Jartsa Karvonen on drums.

Wow! I thought Armand dropped off the scene there. Glad to see & HEAR he’s back. Can’t wait to get the CD.

  2. Cool project, just wondering if they are using tracks? There are some extra guitar and keys parts in there that I don’t see anyone playing on the gig.
