Schecter Introduces Diamond Plus Basses
New for 2015, Schecter has built upon their Diamond Series of basses with the Diamond Plus Series. The new lineup includes the Diamond-J Plus and Diamond-P Plus in a variety of finishes.
Both models are built with a choice of swamp ash or alder for the body, a 6-bolt maple with carbon fiber reinforcements, and either a maple or rosewood fingerboard with 22 narrow-jumbo frets. The Diamond-P Plus has a split coil and humbucker pickup configuration with a Seymour Duncan SMB-4D and a Quarter Pound SPB-3. Its volume knob acts as a push/pull switch to toggle the SMB-4D into series or parallel. The Diamond-J pair of the Quarter Pound pickups with the volume push/pull knob acting as a phase switch. Each bass is fitted with a Seymour Duncan active STC-2S-BO 2-band EQ.
The Schecter Diamond-J Plus, which is also available in a 5-string version, comes in Ivory with the alder body and an Aged Natural Gloss with the swamp ash body. The Diamond-P Plus comes in a Dark Vintage Sunburst with the swamp ash body and Gloss Black for the alder body. They are available now with Street prices of $749 for the Diamond-J Plus and $799 for the Diamond-J 5 Plus and the Diamond-P Plus.

A step backward for this series. Even though it offers up some neat pickup combos, they for some unknown reason went from 21 frets to 20. I’m not going to buy one.
Open question to manufacturer – Why give us a non-traditional pickup combo like P + MM and then insist on 20 frets vs. 21 or 22? Why?, please tell what the rationale is for this? If you’re going to try to freshen up an ancient design, why hold on to one of the most annoying aspects of said design? Even more frustrating is that before the current revision the Diamond series had 21 frets.
