New Paperback Edition of Mike Visceglia’s “A View From the Side” Released

A View From the SideTop session bassist Mike Visceglia committed the experience of being a pro bassist to print with his book A View From the Side, which is now available in a new paperback edition.

Visceglia, well-known for his work with John Cale and Suzanne Vega, has also played/performed with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Phoebe Snow and Bette Midler.

The book, Visceglia says, provides readers with an entrance into the world of a professional sideman. “It’s an essentially bass-centric book, illuminating the trials, tribulations and passions of the pro bassist, but since it’s not technical in nature it can be well understood by anyone interested in a life in the arts.”

Not only does the book include Visceglia’s stories, but also ones culled from star bassists like Will Lee, Tony Levin, Marcus Miller, and Jeff Berlin. It also features an introduction by Sting.

Originally published in 2004, the new edition is out now.
