Tony Levin and Stick Men Double Down on “Let’s THRAK Again” With Two Distinct Versions

Stick Men Lets THRAK Again

The Stick Men have returned with a new album, Let’s THRAK Again, celebrating and reimagining the music of King Crimson’s 1995 album, Thrak. The trio of Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, and Markus Reuter say their first album in over a decade is a musical exploration.

“Let’s THRAK Again is 60 minutes of pure, kinetic energy,” they shared in a statement. “We didn’t just write 12 new compositions; we designed an entirely new sonic vocabulary for them.”

Levin was a member of King Crimson for the original Thrak, giving him a unique perspective on the music. As the name suggests, he performs all the music on a Chapman Stick, while Reuter plays the Touch Guitar.

Watch Levin set up the groove for the heavy track, “Brutal.”

Let’s THRAK Again features two distinct versions of the songs: “Reel One” mixed by Stefano Catagna, and “Reel Two” mixed by Fabio Trentini. Each version has its own mix, track sequencing, and generally separate sonic perspectives.

“Our audience listens deeply. They don’t just want to hear the notes; they want to understand the architecture of the sound,” the band writes. “By having Stefano and Fabio approach the exact same music with completely different visions, we are handing the listener the ultimate audiophile puzzle. It’s a roll of the dice, a sonic triptych, and a tribute to the heavy, mechanical impact of the original THRAK era.”

Let’s THRAK Again is out now on Bandcamp, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more. The Stick Men will be on the road this month to support the release with dates focusing on the West Coast. See below for their fall tour dates.
