Alex Spradling: John Coltrane’s “Countdown” Solo on Double Bass

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, somebody like Alex Spradling comes along and blows your mind. The bassist tackles saxophone legend John Coltrane’s lightning fast solo from “Countdown” on his double bass.

Spradling’s economy of motion makes the blazing lines come off as a fluid stream of notes as his left hand glides over the strings.

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.

    Wow

  3. Point A: Brilliant performance and technique.
Point B: Some things should be left to their creator. Just because you CAN doesn’t mean you SHOULD… :-)

    But well done, anyway.

That’s an interesting point David (B). The only thing I’m not sure of is how do you know whether you should or not if you don’t actually do it first? I’d rather this video exist than not exist.
