Stuart Clayton: Golliwog’s Cakewalk

When I see a video by Stuart Clayton, I’m usually at a loss for words. As many of you know, his transcriptions are stellar, and his bass playing is equally so.

Here’s what Stuart had to say about his latest video:

“This is my arrangement of Debussy’s ‘Golliwog’s Cakewalk’, from The Children’s Corner suite of piano pieces. I’ve wanted to play this on bass for many years, and when I wrote my book book Ultimate Tapping for Bass Guitar it seemed like a good chance to do it… It’s fiendishly difficult to play, and getting it to a performable standard has taken a couple of weeks of regular practice.”

Just incredible.

Great technique to pull off such a challenging piece of music. Very Cool !!!

  2. Ya beat me to it! :) Great idea and execution in playing Debussy on the solo electric bass Stuart!! One of my potential PHD proposals is going to be arranging the music of Debussy on the solo electric bass.
