Fernando Lamadrid: Electriceratops
Whenever I see a new video featuring bassist Fernando Lamadrid, I stop whatever I’m doing to watch.
And Fernando never disappoints.
Recorded live in late December, here’s “Electriceratops”.

Beautiful! Is there an album? This band plays really well together.
First, let me say that I’m sure they are talented. However, I can’t even listen to this genre. I am probably musically biased, but I can’t stand keys. That awful, too-loud organ tone hasn’t changed since the 60’s.
It seems like anybody who does that cookie-cutter Return to Forever stuff is guaranteed a spot on this site. Just look how many pretentious Wulfpeck and Snarky Puppy videos there are.
Might be just me, but I think ya’ll need to mix it up and take a look at Jack Donovan from Elder. The album Dead Roots Stirring is a wonderfully auroboric monstrosity.
Hey Anaughtybear, let me first say that I respect your opinion and the way you framed your comment. As the guy who started this site, I hear a lot that we do such and such too much. Yes, we feature Vulfpeck and Snarky Puppy – not every video they do, but many. And those get a ton of views from No Treble readers. One of my favorite things to do here is feature lesser known folks. Sometimes it works (lots of engagement), but many times it doesn’t. Kevin and I have a long running joke that he’s the “resident expert of everything I don’t like”. But I love that – he brings a lot to the site with his video picks. And I know you’re a regular reader based on recognizing your screen name in the comments. So you likely know we reach out to readers regularly to share videos they love (or produce). That’s actually how I discovered Vulfpeck – thanks to a reader. I encourage you to submit videos you think we can feature by emailing us at [email protected]. It’s impossible to feature a daily video everyone will love. But we do our best to mix it up.
Corey, thank you for playing obscure stuff like this. You turned this guy on to a band from Spain I had not heard of. I went to Fernando’s website and downloaded The Mencial Project’s album from 2013 for free (Fernando has a link to the WAV files on his homepage). I LOVE their sound.
Having said all that, variety and mixing it up is nice too, as the above poster mentioned. I have noticed this site does play a lot of jazzy type stuff. I have very eclectic taste, and can go from listening to metal one minute to “pretentious” 70’s fusion such as Return to Forever and Weather Report.
Please do not showcase less jazzy stuff, but perhaps include more rock, pop, etc. Let us listeners choose to click on a link or disregard. Once again, thank you for opening my eyes to new obscure artists. Artists like Fernando here with The Mencial Project and even Laszlo Demeter from Absurdcus who was showcased last month (also, a great album available for download on their site).
Hi all,
I just wanted to say that I am incredibly grateful for notreble and that it is one of the best things I’ve ever encountered as a bassist and composer. I don’t absolutely love every video that’s posted here, but I always know it’s going to be good. I’ve discovered a lot of my favorite bands here, and the variety is quite admirable. I greatly appreciate that the majority of videos are from very current musicians (though the classic stuff is great as well). Nobody should be blaming you guys for current trends in the music world that not everybody happens to like . . .
Thanks so much,
Noach
Thanks johnie, Noach and Mark. Again, I appreciate the positive feedback from you guys, and the kind words you’ve shared.
I guess the diversity sentiment is what has me most perplexed. If you click ont the “Videos” link in the header of this site and navigate through the first 3 pages of the archive (about a month’s worth), I see among this lineup in the videos we featured: two technical death metal videos, Doug Johns funk, David Bowie & Gail Ann Dorsey, Meshell Ndegeocello doing a cover of a Nina Simone tune, Inti Oyarzun’s Flamenco bass, a Kool and the Gang remake, a trio called 3 Sudaca, Talking Heads, some blues with Willie Dixon, a band dressed up as Star Wars characters shredding on the Star Wars theme, and Rush – to name a handful. In my view, that’s pretty diverse. But again, we always welcome suggestions from readers – just drop us a note at [email protected] and we’ll feature more from the great world of bass! Thanks again.
This sounded most excellent , nice choice Cory. I played bass when younger then laid it down. Two years ago I somehow ending up on talkingbass.net and caught the bass bug . Went out and bought a new bass doing my best to learn , it’s what I do now. I don’t know how I found ‘No Treble’ but it’s the first thing I click on to in the morning .
Thanks to Mark @ talkingbass , Paul @ howtoplaybass , Corey , Kevin all others at notreble my life has meaning yet again. When you have nothing , you got nothing to lose just gain by moving forward one day at a time.
Anywho… after reading all of that… Fernando Lamadrid is a BADASS even though I didn’t particularly dig this tune much. I still appreciate the video just the same. Thanks Corey!
Hahaha. Yeah, we’re having quite the conversation here! Thanks for your positive comments, Mike – here and on many of the other posts.
You are welcome my brotha-o-bass, besides I don’t want you to think I’m ungrateful for the free lifelong subscription to notreble.com – giggitty
He’s awesome!!! He has golden hand.
