The Black Art Jazz Collective Releases “Presented By the Side Door Jazz Club”

The Black Art Jazz Collective: Presented By The Side Door Jazz ClubThe Black Art Jazz Collective, featuring Vicente Archer (Terence Blanchard, Kenny Garrett, Wynton Marsalis, Robert Glasper) on bass, has released Presented By The Side Door Jazz Club.

The album refers to the Side Door Jazz Club in Old Lyme, Connecticut, which gave the group, which celebrates black culture in a positive way, a two-night gig with the chance to record on the club’s equipment.

The record includes a piece dedicated to NAACP co-founder W.E.B. DuBois as well as two songs inspired by President Barack Obama and one inspired by African-American abolitionist and women’s rights activist Sojourner Truth. This all-star ensemble of players – Wayne Escoffery on tenor sax, Jeremy Pelt on trumpet, James Burton III on trombone, Xavier Davis on piano and Johnathan Blake on drums – is dedicated to finding a new strength and identity within the American art form of jazz.
