Dug Pinnick Joins MC5 Kick Out The Jams 50th Anniversary Tour
This year marks the 50th anniversary of The MC5’s seminal album Kick Out The Jams, and Wayne Kramer is going to celebrate it in style. The guitarist, who founded the band in 1964, has assembled an incredible band for the MC50th Anniversary tour featuring Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil, Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty, Zen Guerilla singer Marcus Durant, and King’s X bassist Dug Pinnick.
“The MC5’s music is among the most memorable work I’ve ever done, and I’ve done a lot,” Kramer writes. “Playing the album Kick Out The Jams — live from top to bottom in 2018 — is as exciting a project as I could have ever imagined. And, the fact that this album has meant so much to so many over these decades and continents matters a great deal to me.”
Kramer is the only MC5 member to be on the tour. Bassist Michael Davis, who recorded Kick Out The Jams, passed away in 2012. Check out the band in all their fury from a 1970 performance of the title track:
The 50th Anniversary tour will include 35 shows starting September 5th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It will wrap up in October with two shows in the band’s hometown of Detroit with performances at St. Andrew’s Hall and the Fillmore.
