Bass of the Week: Novacorda Barbaros

Novacorda Barbaros Bass

Novacorda’s Barbaros bass is a design that’s nearly five hundred years old. Well, at least that’s where the inspiration came from.

“The bass guitar was named after Barbaros Hayreddin Pa?a who was an Ottoman admiral of Sultan Süleyman‘s fleet,” the Novacorda website explains. “The design of the bass is based on the cross-section of one of his 16th-century warships of which we found construction plans in a Danish Archive.”

The gorgeous four-stringer is built with a stunning birch body and one-piece walnut top. Luthier Mete Cem Kuzu also utilizes walnut along with odum for the neck. Its ironwood fingerboard has dot inlays for fret markers. “Barbaros impresses due to his amazing sound guaranteed by 2 pickups hand-wound by ERS Guitar Pickups,” Kuzu writes. “He is the cool guy everybody wants to hang out with.”
