Bass of the Week: Jerzy Drozd Orion
Jerzy Drozd creates some fantastic instruments. Alongside his regular line, he also goes out of his way to create some over-the-top beautiful basses. This week we’re checking out the Orion, a bass created from his Soul VI model that is decked out in moissanite gems.
The bolt-on, six-string bass is built with a swamp ash body attached to a one-piece figured hard maple neck. Its extravagant decorations start in the Makassar ebony neck with Orion Nebula inlays made from white pearl and blue stones. Drozd expands on the art with backplate art jewelry with 20 moissanite gems arranged in the backplate. “Orion’s Belt” is found with three more gems in the bridge wall, and finally the “Alnilam” jewelry features three gems on the internal electronic cover between the Orion name and the reference number.
For electronics, the Orion is fitted with a pair of JeD6XS v3.7 pickups and a three-band preamp complete with a mid-frequency selector and active/passive switch.
