Fodera Announces the Masterbuilt Nautilus Bass
Fodera has introduced the latest bass in their Masterbuilt series with the Nautilus, a gorgeous Emperor II model with a mesmerizing nautilus shell pattern. The bass is crafted with a variety of woods to create the effect while the team worked to make the design seamless.
“The top is comprised of various woods such as Maple, Ebony, Quilted Mahogany, and Alder, inlayed into a solid Maple skeleton,” they write. “To make sure that nothing disrupts the pattern, its single Fodera / Duncan Dual Coil pickup is camouflage in the top by a top-matching wooden pickup cover that continues the lines of the shell pattern. Additionally, the instrument forgoes our preamp and instead features passive electronics with matching wooden knobs.”
Fodera adds that the electronics package was also chosen to give a big, warm tone found in early ’60s basses. The pickup is wired in series, although they typically wire in parallel. This wiring plus the pickup’s placement gives a bigger sound. Other features include a walnut body, a flamed ebony fingerboard, and an alder tone block.
