Dezron Douglas Releases “Black Lion”
Bassist, composer and bandleader Dezron Douglas has released a six track EP entitled Black Lion with his ensemble of the same name. The sextet features Stacy Dillard and Lummie Spann on saxophones, Josh Evans on trumpet, David Bryant and Willerm Delisfort on piano and organ and Jeremy “BEAN” Clemons on drums.
The bassist, who has worked with artists from Cyrus Chestnut to Pharaoh Sanders, says the album is straight from the heart and a personal story. The album leans on the contemporary jazz sound with a reggae tune (“Great Provider”) and a funkified groove (“Negroidius Maximus”) thrown in for good measure.
“Soulris” begins with an extended, intimate double bass solo before kicking in the rest of the band.
Black Lion is available now on iTunes.
