Skjold Design Guitars Introduces the Greyling Bass

Skjold Guitars Greyling Bass

Skjold Design Guitars has introduced a new bass model called the Greyling. Shown at the Bass Bash during the 2019 Winter NAMM Show, the bass is described as an old school four-string. Builder Pete Skjold originally built the bass for himself, but Damian Erskine convinced him to add it to his lineup.

“Pete had built himself a bass that was completely different from any of his stock models. While visiting him at his shop in Ohio, I played through pretty much every bass in the building and, while I really dug quite a few of them, I totally fell in love with his personal bass,” Erskine explains. “Very old school vibe sonically and aesthetically but felt every bit as good as my personal Skjolds. Long story short, I begged him to build me one. I’m thrilled that he’s made the model official. It’s too good to keep to ourselves!”

The bass features a medium 33-inch scale with a one-piece Quartersawn maple neck with graphite reinforcements. Its body is African Mahogany, though Skjold offers options of swamp ash, obeche, and roasted poplar. Similarly, the fingerboard can be either morado or maple.

Skjold fits the Greyling with a new version of his C-4 pickup, which houses two P-style pickups under one cover. A pickup selector allows for switching between four modes: P-bass, both pickups in series (like a dual coil), both in parallel (like two single coils) and reverse P-bass. Finally, he holds the bass together with Hipshot hardware.

The Skjold Design Guitars Greyling is completely handmade in Skjold’s Ohio shop. It has a price point of $3,600.
