Bass of the Week: Cosmic Woodworking Jupiter Bass

Cosmic Woodworking Jupiter Bass with playerLuthier Eric Doucet of Cosmic Woodworking posted some photos of his latest build in the No Treble Facebook group, and people took notice. The Jupiter bass has a lot going for it, but the choice of woods is a knockout. Its body is built from swamp ash and Spanish cedar with a carved Sitka spruce top that is more than easy on the eyes.

“The carve is kind of my spin on a German carve. The body and contouring are based on the Mosrite design,” Doucet tells us. “I softened the contour around the arm area to be a little more comfortable than the rest of the carve.”

The neck is equally sweet with layered mahogany, wenge, and pau Amarillo with a Sitka spruce headstock veneer to match the top. Doucet complements the light spruce a rich rosewood for the fingerboard, knobs, jack plate, and pickup ring, which houses a super hip Curtis Novak Darkstar.

The bass is held together with a Hipshot B-Style brass bridge and Ultralite tuners. It has an extra long 35-inch scale, but all in all, it only weighs 7.6 pounds.
