Rocco Prestia Announces New Solo Album

Rocco Prestia

Twenty years after releasing his debut solo album, bass icon Rocco Prestia has announced he’s working on his second. The Tower of Power legend unveiled the new project via an ArtistShare crowdfunding campaign along with former bandmate Jeff Tamelier, who will be producing it.

“I’m very excited to announce my next production with bass legend and old band mate, Francis Rocco Prestia,” Tamelier wrote. “When I first joined the band in 1996, Rocco, drummer Herman Mathews and I had an instant gut bucket lock. Big pocket but super funky. Looking forward to bringing that vibe to this project. Joined by Tower of Power alumni Chester Thompson, Marc Russo and Mike Finnigan. This record will be a winner.”

Prestia has not been touring with Tower of Power due to health issues, but he’s been gotten better enough to work on the follow-up to 1999’s Everbody on the Bus! “I have enjoyed over 50 years of hitting the road and playing music. It’s a wonderful thing, to be able to do what I love, and have others love it as well. It is what I live for.”

The crowdfunding campaign is set for 60 days to raise money to make the album. Rewards for donating to the cause range from a download of the album to credits on his website to an invitation to sit in on the recording session. The highest reward level gives you credit as an executive producer, an autographed copy of the CD, a t-shirt, a decal, an invitation to the recording session, and the actual ESP bass that Rocco uses during the session.
