Geezer Butler and Deadland Ritual: Broken and Bruised

Geezer Butler’s new project Deadland Ritual has just released their first music video for a new song called “Broken and Bruised.” The Black Sabbath bassist’s musical stamp is evident and his snarling bass ties the track together.

Butler is joined in Deadland Ritual by Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses), and Franky Perez (Apocalyptica). “Broken and Bruised” is the second track release from the band, who has played only a handful of shows. The bassist told Billboard that their live sets this year will include original music and a mix of songs from each member’s respective projects.

“We’re thinking about doing seven original songs, which we’ve done up to now, unless we write more between now and May,” he said. “Probably three or four SABBATH songs. ‘N.I.B.’, because that’s what I’m associated with particularly; the bass intro and all that kind of stuff. And some stuff that SABBATH didn’t do, like ‘Symptom Of the Universe’. Steve loves that one. And Franky likes ‘Heaven And Hell’ and we might do one or two others; see which ones work out best in rehearsals. But more obscure SABBATH songs, rather than ‘Iron Man’ or ‘Paranoid’, that’s been done a million times. A couple VELVET REVOLVER. ‘Slither’ definitely, I’m not sure ’bout the second one, and I think we’re going to do ‘Rebel Yell’, Billy Idol! [Laughs] I have to learn them all between now and May.”

Deadland Ritual will be on tour in Europe this month and will return to the U.S. for a pair of shows later in the fall.
