Opeth Releases “In Cauda Venenum”
The mighty Opeth has returned with their thirteenth studio album, entitled In Cauda Venenum, which is Latin for “Poison in the Tail.” The album is a first for the band in that it comes in Swedish and English language versions sung by frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt.
It continues their more experimental trajectory with heavy notes of prog rock rather than their death metal origins. It is, however, still distinctly Opeth with rich harmonies and huge riffs.
“It’s a new direction for us. The mix is different,” Martín Méndez told TotalRock Radio. “I love the sound of it. It’s really natural in a way. You can hear every instrument, which we had problems in the past with especially with the bass. It can be tricky to get a good sound, but this one is really nice.”
Hear Méndez’s monster tone in the track “Dignity”:
In Cauda Venenum is available now on CD, vinyl, and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3). Opeth will be embarking on a North American tour in support of the album in February and March.
