Petros Klampanis Returns with “Irrationalities”

Petros Klampanis: IrrationalitiesPetros Klampanis has released a new album, Irrationalities, that puts the bassist in a new texture for his original compositions. Known for his lush string arrangements, Klampanis opted to make a trio recording with pianist Kristjan Randalu and drummer/percussionist Bodek Janke.

“Arranging is a huge part of what I do, and I think that’s the special thing about the trio: there’s a lot of thought about choice of registers, orchestration, rhythm — a lot of decisions and details, not only for the main melodies but also the improvised sections,” the bassist writes. “I try to explore everything I developed working with strings and incorporate it into this musical vehicle.”

Born in Greece and based in New York City, the album also explores the feeling of living between the two cultures. Get a feel for the music in this video for “Seeing You Behind My Eyes”:
