Fender Unveils the American Ultra Series Basses

Fender American Ultra Series Basses

After teasing it for several days, Fender has unveiled the American Ultra Series, which they call their “most advanced” line of guitars and basses. The series, which includes a Precision and a Jazz model, is defined by new Ultra Noiseless Vintage pickups, newly-designed body contours, and faster playing necks.

You can hear the new basses being played by Blas Perez and Adam Blackstone in the Ultra Series intro video:

The Fender American Ultra Precision bass sports a P/J configuration with the new Noiseless Vintage pickups. They’re matched with a redesigned active/passive preamp complete with a 3-band EQ. Its neck has a Modern “D” shape with a compound radius fingerboard that goes from 10″ to 14″. The bass comes in five finishes: Aged Natural, Arctic Pearl, Mocha Burst, Plasma Red Burst, and Ultraburst.

The Fender American Ultra Jazz Bass comes in four and five-string versions and has similar upgrades to the Precision. That includes the Modern “D” neck shape and compound radius, Noiseless pickups, and redesigned preamp. It also has five colors: Aged Natural, Arctic Pearl, Cobra Blue, Ultraburst, and Texas Tea. (The Five-string version substitutes blue and black for Mocha Burst and Plasma Red Burst.)

The Fender American Ultra Precision Bass and Jazz Bass will be available soon with price points starting at $1,899 and $1,999.

This is far from an upgrade. Losing the string thru body and heavier woods (most 5-strings are >10 lbs across the board now) is why I will not buy into the Ultra line. What a gimmick!!
