Ben Wendel and Linda May Han Oh: All Blues

“All Blues” is one of the most played jazz standards in the book, but you’ve probably never heard it like this. Linda May Han Oh joined Ben Wendel for his “Standards with Friends” series to reimagine the song’s groove.

Wendel, who typically plays saxophone, picked up the bassoon for this one to make it even more unusual. The bassist creates a free flow of rhythm behind his playing, taking her own time as the lead, as well.

The end of the video ends with the duo switching instruments. Oh holds her own on the bassoon, and we’ll give credit to Wendel for braving the double bass.
