Kala Introduces New Affordable U-Bass Models

Kala expanded its lineup of U-Basses with two new entry-level models called the Nomad and the Scout. The ukulele-sized basses feature little to no-frills while retaining the U-Bass feel and sound.
The Nomad is set to be the most affordable U-Bass model with a U.S. price point around $199. “Made of Mahogany and stripped down to the bare essentials – this is our no-frills approach to U-Bass,” Kala writes. “Mahogany is focused, balanced, responsive and punchy for an unabashedly resounding U-Bass.” While it’s stripped-down, the Nomad still has a built-in pickup and Active EQ. It comes in a padded gig bag and strung with Aquila Thunderblack strings.
The Scout steps things up a big with a cutaway body shape and cream binding. It is also built with a mahogany neck and body as well as a rosewood fingerboard.
The Kala Nomad and Scout U-Bass models will be available later this year with expected street prices of $199 and $249.
