Dan Hawkins Publishes “100 Funk Grooves for Electric Bass”

100 Funk Grooves for Electric BassSession bassist and author Dan Hawkins has just released a new instructional book called 100 Funk Grooves for Electric Bass. The 88-page book, which comes in paperback and digital formats, dives into the style with a focus on techniques, essential scales, and the groove styles of funk players.

“We all know a great groove when we hear it, but what makes it so compelling? In 100 Funk Grooves for Electric Bass you’ll drill down into every essential technique needed to create your own super-bad basslines, all while growing your bass lick vocabulary,” the description reads. “Funk bass is the driving force and inspiration behind some of the most popular tunes ever recorded and has touched every area of groove-based music: Pop, Soul, RnB, Jazz and Rock. If you want to be the perfect bass player, you owe it to yourself to learn to lay it down.”

The book is broken up into style: Early Funk, ’70s Disco, 1/16th Note Funk, Jazz Funk, Funk Rock, Slap, and Funk Pop. From there, each style is demonstrated with grooves in the vein of specific bassists like Larry Graham, Bootsy Collins, Flea, Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Bobby Vega, and more. The book includes 100 studio-quality audio examples, four bonus videos for the most challenging techniques, and backing tracks with isolated drum loops for jamming along.

100 Funk Grooves for Electric Bass is available now in paperback and Kindle formats.
