Ryan Madora Publishes Free eBook, “Beginning Improvisation for Bass Players”

Beginner Improvisation For Bass PlayersNo Treble and Bass Player Magazine contributor Ryan Madora has just released a free eBook for helping bassists learn to improvise. Beginner Improvisation For Bass Players: Navigating Chord Progressions with a Soulful Groove is designed to help players break away from the root note and get creative.

“Whether you’re creating a bass line or moving through a chord progression, it’s important to have a few go-to moves in your arsenal—these are some of mine,” states Madora. “This book shows you how to work through common progressions with clever and consonant note choices.”

The book, which is written in both TAB and music notation, teaches you to apply arpeggios, pentatonic lines, leading tones, and scalar movement to your playing while keeping “a simple and soulful rhythm.” All of the exercises are in one key and adhere to diatonic harmony, though the author encourages transposing the lines to other keys.

Madora created video lessons to accompany the book. She’s also created backing tracks and audio examples that can be purchased separately.

Beginner Improvisation For Bass Players: Navigating Chord Progressions with a Soulful Groove is available now as a free download from Madora’s website.
