Tim Lefebvre and Rachel Eckroth Release “The Blackbird Sessions, Vol. 1”
Many fans know Tim Lefebvre for his monumental electric work with David Bowie, The Tedeschi Trucks Band, Wayne Krantz, and more. He also shreds the upright with his free jazz band Whose Hat Is This?, but a new duo album with his wife Rachel Eckroth shows listeners a more sensitive side of the bassist.
The Blackbird Sessions, Vol. 1 is a seven-song collection of jazz standards that lean on ballad tempos and warm tone for an intimate listening experience. Lefebvre gets a big, wooly tone to fill out the harmonies behind Eckroth’s magnificent vocal phrasing. The duo is joined by guitarist David Garza on two tracks: “Prelude to a Kiss” and “Fly Me To The Moon”.
