Victor Wooten Publishes New Book, “The Spirit of Music”

Victor Wooten: The Spirit of Music: The Lesson ContinuesBass phenom Victor Wooten has just published a new book called The Spirit of Music: The Lesson Continues, which follows up on his 2008 novel The Music Lesson. The book teaches lessons through its storytelling, which revolves around three musicians helping Victor in Music City.

“We may not realize it as we listen to the soundtrack of our lives through tiny earbuds, but music and all that it encompasses is disappearing all around us,” the book description states. “In this fable-like story three musicians from around the world are mysteriously summoned to Nashville, the Music City, to join together with Victor to do battle against the ‘Phasers,’ whose blinking ‘music-cancelling’ headphones silence and destroy all musical sound. Only by coming together, connecting, and making the joyful sounds of immediate, ‘live’ music can the world be restored to the power and spirit of music.”

The sequel has been in the works for a decade. Wooten began writing the book in 2011, he told us last year. “[The Music Lesson] came out in 2008 and after it was done I wanted to do another one,” he said. “I started writing another book and it wasn’t flowing. I had ideas, but it wasn’t pouring out as the first one did, so I didn’t force myself and I put it down. It was many years later, maybe 2017, that I actually picked it back up. I started reading that stuff that I didn’t think was flowing and it was good. I had about 10 chapters, not finished, but I was like, ‘Whoa. There’s something here.’ I started there again went ahead and finished it. The lessons continue, basically starting from where the first book left off.”

The Spirit of Music: The Lesson Continues is available now in paperback, audiobook, and Kindle versions.
