Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic: Leave the Door Open

The new project from Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak is called Silk Sonic, and they couldn’t have picked a better name. The music is smooth as hell, recalling the vibes of ’70s soul and R&B acts like The Delfonics and the Stylistics.

Their debut single is the ultimately catchy “Leave The Door Open,” which features some slick bass work of Brody Brown. The multi-instrumentalist, also known for his work in 1500 or Nothin’, lays down the foundation and fits in some nice melodic fills to push the groove along.

Silk Sonic’s debut album has a TBD release date, but until then I’ll be listening to this on repeat.

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.

    Too much candy…

Mr. Brown is a great bassist. He is very tasteful with his fills. The one at the 1:55 (ish) mark is totally hip!

Just great – great musicianship and a great sense of humour!
