International Society of Bassists 2021 Convention Goes Virtual

ISB 2021 Convention

The International Society of Bassists will be holding their biennial bass convention virtually this year from June 8th through the 12th. The bass-filled event will have over 150 concerts, lectures, and masterclasses for attendees to check out.

“Being mindful of our future’s uncertainty and with an abundance of caution, the ISB has decided to move the 2021 convention online to keep our presenters, attendees, and guests safe,” the ISB writes. “Our goal is to recreate, as closely as we can, the traditional in-person ISB convention, including virtual after-hour bass hangs with friends, and a virtual exhibit hall.”

The virtual setting allows for a flexible daytime schedule, letting attendees watch what they want, when they want. Philadelphia Orchestra Assistant Principal Joseph Conyers will be giving the keynote address, while the headliners for the convention include Gary Karr, Linda May Han Oh, Xavier Foley, Nilson Matta, Phoebe Russell, Rufus Reid, Bozo Paradzik, Renaud Garcia Fons, Roman Patkolo, and Jorge Roeder.

Other parts of the convention, which caters mainly to double bass, include live Zoom chats with presenters, a Young Bassists Program, a virtual exhibit hall, panel discussions, morning body work & yoga, and a virtual college fair.

Registration for the 2021 ISB Convention is open to members of the ISB. For more information on registering and joining the ISB, visit their website.
